cm punkIf you were a fan of CM Punk (Phillip Brooks) and you are dying to see the former WWE Champion compete once again, then you’re prayers have been answered. They have been answered in a very different way as CM Punk announced at UFC 181 that he has signed with the company. Here is what CM Punk told Joe Rogan, “It’s very awesome to be here. You know, this is something that’s been in the back of my mind for a very, very long time. I have a background in kenpo. I’ve done Brazilian jiu-jitsu off and on for a very, very long time. But the idea of being able to step in the Octagon and find out what’s inside myself and test myself is an opportunity I was not able to deny myself.” The 36 year old has set no time table as to when his first fight will be or what weight class he will be fighting in, but their thinking either Middleweight or Welterweight.

We all know as WWE and from the Colt Cabana podcast that he has been a longtime fan of MMA as he was trained in Kenpo and he has flirted on and off learningĀ jiu-jitsu from Rener Gracie of the world famous Gracie family. We also know that one time, Chael Sonnen once invited Punk to escort him into the Octagon, but Vince McMahon quickly squashed that opportunity. With Brock Lesnar still being the UFC’s Pay Per View king and the first crossover WWE to UFC superstar, there is no telling what kind of numbers CM Punk will pull in when he competes in 2015.
