For today’s Countdown To WrestleMania match, we are looking at the second ever Money In The Bank Ladder match which was first introduced at WrestleMania 21 by Chris Jericho and revived by Carlito for WrestleMania 22. Vince McMahon held qualifiers all throughout the Road To Wrestlemania and the following were the participants: Rob Van Dam, Shelton Benjamin, Ric Flair, Finlay, Matt Hardy, and Bobby Lashley. To remind all of you, the concept was simple. If you won the MITB (short for Money In The Bank), you had a guaranteed contract that you could cash in at any time against any world champion of your choice for up to one year. The Contract would expire at the following WrestleMania (when the match was held on that event). One of the tings about this match is that it can be dangerous for the competitors as they go all out in the match.
The match can be described as controlled chaos as the advantage can switch at the blink of an eye in these matches. Bobby Lashley started off on top as he cleared the ring of every opponent until Shelton Benjamin delivered a big kick to his head. One of the best moments from the get go was when Shelton Benjamin set up the ladder to lay against the ropes and he used it to run along it to deliver a senton bomb to the outside. Ric Flair would leave the match early after Matt Hardy delivered a suplex off the top of the ladder, but Flair would eventually return. After the guys started delivering ther finishing moves off of the ladder, RVD would do the same delivering a five star frog splash on to Finlay off the ladder. RVD would eventually climb the ladder, but as he went to grab it, Benjamin leap frogged out of nowhere onto the ladder where he attacked RVD. Matt Hardy would grab a ladder and he would climb it to get into the action. Eventually when Matt Hardy looked like a threat, Shelton would move over to the other ladder, but RVD kicked their ladder out of the way sending both men to the outside of the ring. With the two out of the way, RVD would grab the briefcase making him the second ever Money In The bank ladder match winner.
