WWE Survivor Series 2017: My Thoughts & Predictions

wwe-survivor-series-2017-poster-preview-832x447Things were rocking in Houston, Texas last night for WWE NXT TakeOver: WarGames and things are about to get better tonight for WWE Survivor Series. Survivor Series is one of the original Big Four Pay Per Views (alongside Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, and SummerSlam) that the WWE debuted back in 1987. It’s the second longest running pay per view the company has and one of the best for it’s unique match that it was built around which was a five on five single elimination match (dubbed the Survivor Series match). This year things got a little more exciting especially with the competition between Raw and Smackdown as we now have champion vs champion matches. We have WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar (Raw) taking on WWE Champion AJ Styles (SD Live) in what should one interesting match. We are also getting WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz (Raw) taking on WWE United States Champion Baron Corbin (SD Live). We also have WWE RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss taking on WWE Smackdown Live Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair in a sort of dream match hence the reason Charlotte won the title.

wweThen there are the traditional Survivor Series matches and things have been heating up with all of the changes in whose in and who is not. The original RAW men’s team consisted of Kurt Angle (Captain), Braun Strowman, Finn Balor, Samoa Joe, and Jason Jordan taking on Smackdown Live’s team made up of Shane McMahon (Captain), Randy Orton, Bobby Roode, Shinsuke Nakamura, and John Cena. That was the original match and a lot of us were stunned at the fact that Jordan had been picked for the team considering Smackdown told the world that Cena was the last member chosen. Stephanie McMahon agreed with me and Bray Wyatt helped the situation by injuring Jordan last week on RAW. When it came time to announce the replacement, Jordan made the situation difficult and Triple H remedied it by announcing that it was him and he put the exclamation point on it by delivering a pedigree to Jordan. Now the match is interesting and one I can not wait to see because imagine the situations you’ll get in this match. Finn and Shinsuke in the ring at the same time or even Triple H and Bobby Roode and so many more.

wwe 2The other traditional Survivor Series match is between the Women this time around as RAW’s Alicia Fox (Captain), Nia Jax, Asuka, Sasha Banks, and Bayley take on Smackdown Live’s Becky Lynch (Captain), Carmella, Naomi, Tamina, and Natalya. The thing that I would love to see happen tonight with that match is that instead of Natalya being in the match, Paige makes her triumphant return to a WWE ring as a member of Team Smackdown Live. I doubt it will happen because I believe that she is being punished for a picture she took last Monday. We’ll see if anything happens tonight, but there’s more matches for tonight. In their first PPV match since reuniting The Shield (Dean, Seth, and Roman) take on The New Day in a six man elimination falls count anywhere match. RAW tag team champions The Bar (Cesaro & Sheamus) take on The Usos to finish out the RAW vs Smackdown Live matches. The Pre-show features some surprise matches like Breezango taking on Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, Enzo defends his cruiserweight title against Kalisto and Matt Hardy takes on Elias Sampson. Again, they have set this PPV up to be a very good one, but it remains to be seen if it ends up going that way for them. I’ll be tuning into it and hopefully you are if you’re a fan. Check out my predictions below:

Overall, I think out of seven total matches between Raw and Smackdown Live, I think RAW wins overall, but the setting is set for a match between Triple H and Kurt Angle for WrestleMania 34.

Enzo defeats Kalisto with help from Gulak

Owens and Zayn will defeat Breezango

Elias defeats Matt Hardy

The Shield will defeat The New Day

The USOS will defeat Cesaro and Sheamus

Charlotte will defeat Alexa Bliss

The Miz will defeat Baron Corbin

Team Raw Women’s will defeat Smackdown Live

Team Smackdown Men will defeat Team Raw

Brock Lesnar will defeat AJ Styles

big-e-vs-dolphWe are continuing to pay tribute here at Mr. X’s Punch Out to all the amazing African Americans that have stepped foot into the squared circle for Black History Month. The man we are checking out today is none other than The New Day’s Big E Langston as we are covering every member of The New Day separately. We are rewinding to March 25, 2014 when Big E was the WWE Intercontinental Champion and he had to defend the championship against Dolph Ziggler at that edition of Main Event in Boston, MA. Earlier in the night, Dolph had earned the right to face Big E after he won a triple threat match against Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio. You had to figure that Dolph wasn’t going to be 100% entering the match against the massive Big E, but we all know that Dolph never quits that easily. It was going to be a match of speed vs power and if Dolph wanted to win, he had to keep the match going in a fast pace environment while avoiding the brute power of Big E.

big-eIn the beginning of the match, Big E used his power to get the best of Dolph as he used all 300 lbs to keep Dolph isolated on the mat. Despite a nice dropkick from Ziggler, Big E was able to keep his advantage with a huge clubbing clothesline that sent Ziggler to the outside to regroup. When we came back from commercial break, it looked like Big E was still in control until he went shoulder first into the steel ring post and then Dolph began his flurry of fists and stinger like splashes. Despite the effort, Big E would make a comeback, but the two for the rest of the match would be trading advantages with Dolph hitting a big time DDT, but Big E hung in there. After Ziggler tried to hit the zig zag, Big E would brush him off and hit him with another clubbing clothesline, but Dolph would kick out on the pin attempt. After the straps came off, Big E would try for the big ending, but Dolph would hit the famouser, but Big E kicks out. Dolph would then try to hit a Superkick, but Big turned into a Big Ending and that was all she wrote. Even though I love The New Day, I would love to see Big E get a big push in the WWE.

Main Event Madness: The 2017 Royal Rumble Match

royal_rumble_2017One of the greatest pay per views that the WWE has besides WrestleMania has always been the Royal Rumble just because of the 30 Man Royal Rumble match. It is a match that is considered the first stop on the road to WrestleMania and with good reason as many have cashed in on the opportunity it gives you when you main event the biggest show on Earth. The question going into this year’s Royal Rumble from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas was who was going to win a match that was completely stacked with some giant names like Brock Lesnar, Goldberg, The Undertaker, Braun Strowman, The Big Show, etc. The only thing is that the Rumble had to follow what I am calling a potential match of the year candidate in AJ Styles Vs John Cena. When it came time for the Rumble match, we were all wondering who was going to draw number one? Was it a current superstar? Or was it a potential debut? Instead, we informed by Enzo as if we couldn’t tell that it was Big Cass that drew number one. After a good five minute rant, we found out that Chris Jericho was going to start the match at number two. After Kalisto and Mojo Rawley drew three and four respectively, we were treated to our first surprise entrant in Gentleman Jack Gallagher who brought his umbrella in the ring and did some damage with it including to Chris Jericho’s undercarriage.

c3b8vzbueaask3dIt wouldn’t be long before he was tossed out by the sixth entrant in the rumble match in “The World’s Strongest Man” Mark Henry. Business picked up as soon as the massive Braun Strowman entered the rumble. Braun would show his dominant side for about 13 minutes. Braun with his size and power would eliminate seven wrestlers from the rumble that included (in order of elimination) Mojo Rawley, Big Cass, Kalisto, Mark Henry, The Big Show, James Ellsworth (who was tricked by Dean Ambrose to enter the ring), and Tye Dillinger before he was eliminated by Baron Corbin. The amount of wrestlers in the ring would build up for a while until Brock Lesnar, Goldberg, and The Undertaker showed up to take out the trash. Brock would eliminate Dean Ambrose, Dolph Ziggler, and Enzo Amore before he was taken out in the same fashion as the Survivor Series by Goldberg who handled him like a rag doll. Goldberg would snag a couple more eliminations before the deadman sent him packing from the Rumble match.

rumble-final-fourThen it happened, the one moment that disappointed WWE fans all over the world when they found out that Roman Reigns had drawn the number 30 spot. We couldn’t believe that at this point in the match, there were absolutely no debuts from NXT in the rumble besides Tye Dillinger coming out at 10 and no debuts from anyone outside the company. To make matters worse, Roman Reigns eliminated The Undertaker leaving the final four being Chris Jericho (who broke the record for the longest collective time spent in the Royal Rumble matches), Bray Wyatt, Randy Orton, and Roman Reigns. Then just like that, Chris Jericho climbs the ropes, gets hit with a superman punch and is eliminated by Reigns. Then Reigns realized that he was outnumbered by Orton and Bray Wyatt as they gang attacked him in the ring. As Bray set up Reigns for the Sister Abigail into the RKO, Reigns countered with a superman punch for each of them and using Bray’s own momentum, he eliminated him. Reigns then set up for the spear, but got an RKO outta nowhere for it and then was clotheslined over the top rope making Randy the winner of the match. It was an Ok rumble match with things that obviously could have been improved, but that’s the breaks.

TLC_2015_official_posterI don’t know about you, but WWE TLC 2015 may be one of the worst pay per views of the year. The vent takes place at The TD Garden in Boston, MA and let’s see who will not be there: Seth Rollins, Randy Orton, Cesaro, and supposedly no John Cena as well. The company is left with a roster that just isn’t good enough to make a Pay Per View work (in my opinion at least). The PPV can be called decent at the most, but just what in the hell is the company thinking with some of the matches. We have a Survivor Series match at a follow up PPV, we have Ryback taking on Rusev in an uninteresting match, and Jack Swagger taking on an opponent that would have made sense a couple of years back when the match would have mattered. I am a huge fan of Alberto Del Rio, but this match just isn’t prevalent anymore and you know Swagger is not becoming US Champ. Charlotte taking on Paige should be decent, but where is Becky Lynch and how about Boston’s own Sasha Banks? The New Day is the hottest thing going as heels and I am super pumped for the ladder match with The USOS and The Lucha Dragons. Hopefully it can muster up some memories of the legendary ladder matches The Dudley Boys had with The Hardy Boys and Edge/Christian. I am also looking forward to the match between Intercontinental Champion Kevin Owens who takes on Dean Ambrose. This could be a match of the night contender in my opinion unless Cena returns, screws Reigns, turns heel. That last statement is the only thing that would make me excited to see with the main event between WWE World Champion Sheamus and Roman Reigns. Here are my predictions for the night:

Alberto Del Rio defeats Jack Swagger

Charlotte defeats Paige

The ECW Originals defeat The Wyatts

The New Day retain the WWE Tag Team Championships

Rusev defeats Ryback

Roman Reigns defeats Sheamus

Kevin Owens defeats Dean Ambrose

jerichoChris Jericho to start The Highlight Reel said that the last time he had a Highlight Reel, he had predicted that The Authority would no longer be in power and tonight he was predicting that someone was going to come out in something tight, shiny, and either in the colors red, white, or blue. When Lana and Rusev came to the ring, Lana was wearing a shiny red dress. The promo was kind of lame with Jericho throwing childish insults at Lana and Rusev with Rusev eventually grabbing the mic and telling Jericho that maybe he would crush Jericho. Jericho then replied that he knows someone that wants to fight Rusev and then all of sudden Ryback’s music hits the speakers and the big man comes out to the ring. Rusev said some inaudible to Ryback, but he backed out of the ring and he left.

ascensionBefore we came back from commercial break, we saw a pretty intense promo from NXT tag team The Ascension and it looked awesome as it ended with the screen saying, “The Ascension Will Rise.” Then we when we came back officially, The New Day came out to the ring to face Gold and Stardust in a rematch from last night. This time it was Xavier Woods and Big E taking on the Dust Brothers and they simply dominated the match all the way up to the commercial break. When we came back from break, Gold and Stardust were in control as they kept Big E grounded and off his feet. Eventually, The New Day took over the match and they were able to defeat the Dust Brothers again. I don’t think the crowd was that impressed with Xavier Woods considering he was getting some boos.

bunnyAfter the commercial break, The Miz and Damien Mizdow were cutting a promo with Renee Young regarding The Miz’s match with Jimmy Uso tonight on Raw. We also found out that Adam Rose was going to be in action as he told the Rosebuds that he was throwing an after party after his match. Then he was interrupted by Kane who was their to tell him that he was facing Adam Rose next. Adam Rose was doing too bad in the match as he was able to avoid most of what Kane was trying to throw at him. Then he showboated too early and he caught a big boot from Kane. Kane then went to deliver a choke slam and The Bunny climbed into the ring and Kane caught him and delivered a double chokeslam and then he pinned Rose for the win. After the match, he delivered a tombstone to The Bunny which get the crowd excited. We all know something stupid and overdone we when we see it.

brockThe next match of the night was apparently the match between Chris Jericho and Paul Heyman. Paul Heyman came in begging for Chris to change his mind and even tried to write him a check, but Jericho slapped the check book away. Then when we found out that the WWE Universe chose a Street fight as the stipulation, Paul Heyman started to say that he didn’t understand certain things including why he would start a fight with the Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar. Brock’s music hit the speakers and the most dominate man came out and after circling the ring, he entered it. The two had a stair down and before you knew it they went at it. Jericho tried to hit a code breaker, but he failed and he received an F5 instead. Brock and Paul left the ring right after.

12Tonight’s special guest General Manager Chris Jericho came out to address the crowd and he started by thanking everyone for winning the Slammy for most extreme moment of the year. He then asked Fandango to come out to give him back his award, but he got Paul Heyman instead who complained about Chris winning the Slammy. After an insult from Jericho, he then told Chris that he wanted to talk about Seth Rollins and how he failed to beat John Cena. That prompted Seth Rollins to come out and he got in Paul Heyman’s face. He started telling Paul that he had the match won and that if it wasn’t for Roman Reigns, he would have won the match. Then he challenged John Cena to a match, but told everyone that it wasn’t for tonight. Then John Cena came out to ringside and he began telling Seth that he isn’t a real man because he whines too much. He also jokingly said that he needed to find a general manager who would make the match and Y2J stepped up and made the match a steel cage match for tonight. This angered Seth Rollins and he told Jericho that he was so jealous that Jericho couldn’t even beat Paul Heyman. So much to the dismay of Paul Heyman, Jericho announced that the WWE Universe would pick the match stipulations for Heyman versus Y2J.

FullSizeRenderThe first match of the night saw The Big Show and Luke Harper take on Erick Rowan and the new Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler. Dolph started off the match first with The Big Show and at first he used his speed to outwit Show, but Show as usual used his size to his advantage as he punished Ziggler. When we came back from commercial break, Luke Harper was in the ring and they were still dominating Ziggler. After a while, Dolph finally made it to his corner and he was able to tag in Erick and Erick was cleaning house, but eventually The Big Show would deliver the KO and he pinned Erick for the 1-2-3. Before we went back to commercial break, Y2J confronted Fandango and told him that when he was done with Heyman, he was going to come back and dance all over Fandango’s face.

When we came back from Commercial break, they showed some photos from last night’s Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match between Bray Wyatt and Seth Rollins and announced that on Super Smackdown Live tomorrow night, both men would be under the same roof. Then The New Day cut a promo with Renee Young that was actually pretty funny. Then before we went back to commercial break, we found out that the Bella Twins were going to compete in tag team action. When we came back from commerical break, we found out that they were facing Alicia Fox and Natalya. The match was pretty marginal until Natalya came in and slapped the sharp-shooter on Brie Bella as she made Brie tap. Before we went to commercial break, they promoted the fact once again that the WWE Universe could vote for what kind of a match Heyman and Jericho were going to be in. They also announced that to start hour 2, the Highlight Reel was next with Rusev and Lana as the special guests.

1Jerry Lawler came out to introduce Seth Green who was talking about how he was excited for Raw until he was interrupted by The Miz and Mizdow. The Miz was asking Green about hiring an a-lister like The Miz, but Seth Green told him that Mizdow was the real a-list celebrity. Then the Miz after denying that, announced that it was time for the This Is Awesome Moment Of The Year Award. Then they announced that the winner would be announced following the match between Dolph Ziggler and Seth Rollins. Before we went to break, Dolph had drop kicked Rollins out the ring, but when we returned Seth was in control. Dolph was able to get create some separation in the match and he was able to gain some steam against Rollins until J&J Security interfered in the match allowing Rollins to hit the curb stomp on Dolph Ziggler for the win.

This Is Awesome Moment Of The Year

Winner: Sting Debuts

Seth of course was upset over the fact that Sting won, so he took the Slammy Award and accepted it on behalf of Sting. Then the new faction in the WWE The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods) made their way down to the ring as we found out that Kofi Kingston was taking on Stardust. In the beggining of the match, Stardust was in control for the most part as he was their immediately to cut off any advantage Kofi tried to make. Then Kofi went on a rampage as he nailed some impressive high flying moves topped with a cross body from the top rope and a cover for the 1-2-3 as he defeated Stardust. John Laurinaitis came out to present the surprise return of the year award. Then before he announced the nominees, he asked everyone when people power was going to return? The nominees for the award were Hulk Hogan, The Rock, Batista, and The Ultimate Warrior.

The Surprise Return Of The Year

Winner: The Ultimate Warrior

We Seth Rollins backstage talking to Paul Heyman and they are talking about the match at WWE Tables, Ladders, Chairs, and Stairs where if Seth Rollins defeated John Cena, he would lose his number one contender-ship. Seth tries to remind Paul that he will defeat Cena and that he is the future. He also told him that he had a title shot whenever he wanted withe briefcase. Paul cut him off and told him to make sure he defeats Cena cause no one is denying he is the future, but to make sure Cena is drenched in the past. Charlotte Flair from NXT came down to the ring for the next match to take on Natalya. This was one of the most impressive Divas matches in a while where Charlotte looked impressive with the chops and moves, but when she went to hit the figure four leg lock, Natalya rolled her up for the pin fall victory. Santino Marella came out to present the slammy OMG Shocking Moment Of The Year Award. The nominees were Seth Rollins Sells Out, Bella Betrayal, The Whole World In His Hands, and The Streak Is Conquered.

Winner: The Streak Conquered
