titoalberto.0There have been occasions where as a fan of sports entertainment that you are left wondering if one of them is making the right decision when they step into an Octagon. You are essentially leaving the world of sports entertainment and entering into a world where once that door closes there is literally no escaping destiny. We saw CM Punk fail terribly in his first fight against Mickey Gall back at UFC 205 to the point where you questioned this type of decision making. Since then, we have seen Jake Hager step into the world of MMA in Belator and he has been successful for the moment, but I want him to face some real veterans like our next subject just did for Combate Americas. The man I am talking about is the man formerly known to the world as Alberto Del Rio who in his career was a former WWE Champion as well as WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Last night, Alberto Rodriguez stepped into the ring with a man who may be well over his prime, but at one point was a true bad ass of the Octagon in Tito Ortiz. The first ever Mexican American UFC Champion came into the event not only with a 20-12-1 record, but with a clear agenda that he was going to embarrass Alberto.

tito-ortiz-def-alberto-del-rio-via-first-round-rear-naked-choke-submission-combate-americas-tito-vs-alberto-12-7-2019The stipulation heading into the fight was that if Ortiz won the fight against the 9-5 Alberto, Alberto would give up his WWE Championship belt to Ortiz’s kids. However, if Alberto won the fight, her would receive Tito’s UFC Championship belt. He also stated that if Del Rio could make it out of the first round that he would donate $50,000 to Alberto’s charity. However, when the fight actually started, Tito absolutely smothered Alberto bringing him to the mat where Alberto barely got any offense going and was constantly on the defensive as it eventually led Ortiz to get the rear naked choke locked in and after a few seconds Alberto tapped out after 3:10 of the first round had passed. Tito had done what Tito always did and that is he brought the spectacle to the fight with his Trump 2020 trunks, flag, MAGA Hats, and even coming out to Hulk Hogan’s Real American Hero theme song all the way to the ring. Tito definitely proved that if any former WWE wrestler wants to prove what he has, he needs to fight a real trained killer like The Huntington Bad Boy himself. One thing I will say is that while there are no excuses, but this was Alberto’s first MMA fight since 2010 and he has stepped into the ring with some real deals like Mirko Filipovic (Pride- Bushido 1 2003). I don’t know where Alberto goes next with this, but he’ll have to think long and hard before stepping back. If you can get access to the event, check out the fight between Desiree Yanez and Melissa Martinez which was definitely worth the price of admission.

dream matches part 2 copyLast month I listed some of my dream WWE matches that I would love to see happen in the near future. I thought it was a pretty good list, but I am back to do part two and this one is different. You see for today’s Dream Matches, we are thinking outside the box and beyond the walls of the WWE for matches we would just love to see happen in general. While Chris Jericho made a lot of our dreams come true last year by challenging Kenny Omega, there are still a ton of matches he and many others haven’t had and the possibilities are endless. Now the rules are simple, all you have to have is an imagination and leave your elitist opinions at home because we are just trying to have some fun here.

1. Tessa Blanchard vs Charlotte Flair

charlotte vs tessaI’m naming this one first because we have to be honest with ourselves in realizing that the best thing going in the Impact Knockouts division is Tessa Blanchard! She had an amazing match at All In, sher’s had an amazing 2018 as champ, and she is the daughter of a Horseman (Tully Blanchard). Charlotte has been on top of the WWE since the moment she stepped foot through the doors and she has not disappointed us one bit. She had a 2018 that was up and down that saw her lose her title to a new and improved Becky Lynch, but she reinvented herself thanks to her match with Ronda Rousey. Oh yeah, she is also the daughter of a Four Horseman (Ric Flair) so while we will have to wait and see what happens this year. I’ll hope that the Diamond standard gets a shot at the Queen to see how good genetics really are since these are two of the most superior athletes in the game right now.

2. CM Punk vs AJ Styles

aj styles vs cm punkI have about a hundred different opponents that I would love to see CM Punk do battle with in the ring, but I’ll narrow it down to one (maybe two) match that I would love to see him wrestle. I look at matches like I am promoting a match and instantly the title The Best In The World vs The Phenomenal One comes to mind as I would love to see CM Punk take on AJ Styles. It’s one of those scenarios that probably never happen because Punk is dead set against coming back to wrestle and not just the WWE, but one can dream. This would have been a WrestleMania caliber match that would have tore the roof off the place with arguably two of the best in the business. Now, we do not know what lies ahead for any of these two other than the rumor that AJ will be headed to RAW and that Punk will be doing commentating for a small MMA promotion, but one can sit back and wish in his heart that this might happen someday. Would Punk hit AJ with the GTS or would AJ hit the phenomenal forearm and follow it up with a Styles clash?

3. Kenny Omega vs AJ Styles

aj styles vs kenny omegaYou didn’t think that I was going to keep the Phenomenal One off of this post just because of the last one did you? Listen the hottest free agent in all of professional wrestling is out there right now in Kenny Omega and if you are a WWE fan then you hope that this guy makes his debut at the WWE Royal Rumble and hits the ground running like his predecessor AJ Styles. AJ was the leader of The Bullet Club until he was hit with his own finisher by his successor Kenny Omega. You don’t think that in all of the madness that has been the last two years or so that AJ Styles has forgotten about that? We at one time hoped that the WWE was going to give us our dream rematch of AJ/Nakamura and they delivered at WrestleMania 34. They also delivered us Finn Balor (who was the leader of the Bullet Club before AJ) vs AJ Styles and that match was amazing. Now, we can only sdit back and hope that we get AJ Styles vs Kenny Omega at a WrestleMania or maybe even a Summerslam. That my friends is what is best for business and lord knows the WWE needs it now that AEW is around the corner and threatening. So, let’s make it happen WWE!!!

4. Bray Wyatt vs “The Switchblade” Jay White

I think the only reason I want to see this match is only because these guys essentially have the same finishing move. One calls it the Sister Abigail while the other calls it the blade runner. One can cut amazing promos that can mystify a crowd and the other is the hottest name in Indy wrestling now that he is the fifth leader of The Bullet Club. I have nothing else so let’s move on (maybe this isn’t a dream match yet).

5. Abyss vs Mankind

abyss vs mankindI don’t know how one promotion would have dealt with a match like this considering one was a carbon copy of the other, but I honestly would loved to have seen Mankind in his prime take on Abyss to settle once and for all who is the better monster. Mankind was definitely the better of the two, but Abyss is a physical specimen that is imposing. Both of these men have had legendary matches and have carried their respective companies at one time or another. This is definitely catagorized in the dream matches that we all think of when we’re playing WWE2K and saying imagine if Andre The Giant faced The Big Show? So, we’ll go ahead and put this int he video game fantasy mode because this is a fantasy match of mine.

6. The Young Bucks vs The Revival

young bucks vs revivalI want to indulge wrestling fans every where with this pick because it’s one that both teams have tweeted out that they’d love to do. These two could be considered hands down the two best tag teams in the business with The Young Bucks proving it on their own and after an outcry from the WWE Universe, The Revival are finally getting their chance to prove why they are the best in the WWE. I don’t see this match happening in the WWE if I am being honest so maybe when their contracts expire with the WWE maybe The Revival will head over to AEW. Nevertheless, I think this would be a fantastic match that combines two contrasting styles with the high flyers vs the nasty, fist in your mouth, Brain Busters styled team and those always make interesting matches. There was a belief once that Tag Team Matches carried the business and it definitely ruled in the WWE, but every time like it looks to get better they ruin it. Hopefully, The Revival is the start of the revival of tag wrestling and hopefully we get to see this match one day as well. This is it for part two, stay tuned for more dream matches as they come.

Brock Lesnar Breaks CM Punk’s Record

Brock-Lesnar-CM-Punk-WWECM Punk is back in the news again and this time it has absolutely nothing to do with his UFC career. It’s the fact that WWE gained a cheap win this week after a tough loss to CM Punk in court. So, I think it’s safe to say that the company found a way to get even with Punk and that was to have someone very undeserving of the milestone be the one that broke his record of 434 days as WWE Champion. CM Punk accomplished the feat back between 2011 and 2013 when he lost to The Rock at the Royal Rumble ending t he incredible run. Brock Lesnar has been WWE Universal Champion for more than 434 days now and he has barely defended the title which in my opinion was a cheap way to break a record. In fact, I believe that there should be an asterisk next to his record, but we all know that it doesn’t matter how you got there, but the WWE won’t admit that ever. The other thing is that they are two separate titles with both still active, so the record shouldn’t be broken, but the WWE doesn’t careand we have to love with that. The WWE did release a statement regarding the streak saying:

Brock Lesnar earns longest championship reign of the modern era

Brock Lesnar’s long list of WWE accomplishments has now grown by one: The Beast Incarnate has officially notched the longest World Championship reign of the modern era.

Lesnar’s ongoing run as Universal Champion surpassed the previous marker, CM Punk’s 434-day stint as WWE Champion that stretched between 2011 and 2013. Lesnar’s advocate (and, coincidentally, Punk’s former hype man) Paul Heyman commemorated the occasion by taking to Twitter.

That Lesnar has powered his way into the history books is impressive in and of itself, but given that no challengers have yet to emerge for The Conqueror’s throne, the most awe-inspiring aspect of his reign isn’t that it has lasted this long, but that it seems unlikely to end anytime soon.

cm punk fightI needed a day or two to truly soak in everything that transpired at UFC 225 which was in Chicago this past Saturday Night (June 9). The main event of the night might have been the match between Colby Covington and Rafael dos Anjos as well as Robert Whittaker vs Yoel Romero, but the real reason I watched the card was to check out CM Punk. Phil Brooks a.k.a. CM punk was finally getting a second shot in a UFC octagon after only lasting 2:14 in his first fight against Mickey Gall. This past Saturday night, he took on Mike Jackson, a former boxer who happened to lose his very first fight in the UFC against Mickey Gall, but in 45 seconds. So, the cards had to be in CM Punk’s favor right? That couldn’t have been farther than the truth as CM Punk lost in a very unanimous decision to Jackson (30-26, 30-26, 30-26). CM Punk fought a pretty decent first round against Jackson, but he tired himself out with every failed attempt at a takedown that Jackson was able to avoid. Jackson toyed with Punk as if there was absolutely no doubt in his mind that he was going to walk out victorious.

cm punk fight 3Punk tried and tried to get submission holds on Jackson from round two to the end, but there was no real force behind them and it didn’t help that Jackson was turning his face into hamburger meat. Jackson didn’t have to put much effort into the win and that was very telling of how everyone felt. I honestly doubt that if we do see Punk one more time in the UFC, it will not be on a main card and it certainly will not be on the televised preliminary round, but the fight pass card. On Sunday, Punk sort of released a statement on Twitter saying, “You win some, you lose some! I’m 1-1 this week and I’ll take it! Thanks to my team, my family, my friends, and THE FANS! Wouldn’t be here without any of you. Respect to @TheTruthJackson, thanks for the fight! You only live once, and… I’M ALIVE!” The one in 1-1 is referring to his win against the WWE in the lawsuit. The last part of that statement should be an indicator to Punk that for the sake of his own safety, it may be time to explore a completely different career which Dana White seems to agree with these days.

cm punk 5Dana ended up commenting on the fight and he aimed it at Mike Jackson saying, “Michael Jackson I’m not happy with. This guy was acting like a goofball tonight. You get this opportunity to fight CM Punk, and you’re doing, like, bolo punches to the body on top. Never looked like he was trying to finish the fight ever. Looked like he could have finished the fight a few times. Never tried. I don’t know what that guy did for a living before we gave him the shot, but whatever it was, he needs to go back and do that again. He’s 0-2 as far as I’m concerned. I got the sense that he’s a complete f—–g idiot, and I couldn’t wait for that fight to end, and I regretted not putting that fight on Fight Pass. That’s how I felt about that fight.” While that was aimed at Jackson, Dana did address Punk saying, “No, it should be a wrap. The guy’s 39 years old. We gave him two shots, and he had a lot of heart tonight, and I think he should call it a wrap.” One thing is for sure, Punk has nothing to be ashamed of because he tried it. It didn’t work, he knows that and now he can move on. Whether it’s a return to wrestling, continuing writing comic books, or whatever else he decides to do I will support CM Punk all the way.

UFC 225: CM Punk’s Second Chance

cm punkBack on September 10, 2016, so many of us WWE and or wrestling fans wanted to believe that our hero CM Punk would be able to do what only Brock Lesnar has been able to do when he stepped foot in the octagon at UFC 203. We wanted to believe that there was a chance that CM Punk was going to be successful when he took on Mickey Gall, but boy we were wrong. At the 2:14 mark of the first round, Punk was forced to tap out to a rear naked choke and his future in the sport became foggy with reports that Dana White was done with the idea of having Punk in the UFC. There were those that were hoping that our Second City Savior was going to come back to the WWE after this loss, but did you all forget what happened to Brock Lesnar the first time he stepped in to a UFC Octagon? You see Brock lost to Frank Mir in his UFC debut at UFC 81 when he tapped out to a knee bar. It was his first loss in the UFC, but Brock didn’t quit and in fact he kept going defeating two men (Heath Herring and Randy Couture) before he won the rematch against Frank Mir at UFC 100.

ufc-225-weigh-ins-cm-punk-makes-weight-mma-fighting-xv5xjQg6oJcYou see all I am trying to say to all of you is why should we give up hope on CM Punk? When CM Punk steps foot back in the Octagon at UFC 225 in his hometown of Chicago against Mike Jackson, why shouldn’t we believe that there might be a glimmer of hope that he walks out of the fight a winner? Mike Jackson has the same record as CM Punk as he also lost to Mickey Gall back at UFC Fight Night: Hendricks vs. Thompson. Mickey Gall seems to believe that CM Punk has a chance to win the fight. Nathan Zurr is reporting that according to Ariel Halwani’s tweets that Mickey Gall stated, “MJ does have more experience. He has more hard-wired skill. MJ should win. But I’m picking CM Punk. Punk lasted 2:14 with me, which is pretty impressive. MJ lasted only :45. Punk has almost triple the time of ufc experience.” We will see if Mickey Gall is correct about this, but Mickey Gall also went on to tell TMZ Sports that Punk was lying about wanting a rematch with Gall. He said, “I think he’s a liar. I don’t think he actually wants that.” He also went on to insinuate that UFC wouldn’t allow that saying, “I don’t think they’ll let that happen to him again.”

hqdefaultNo matter what the case is, one of the other questions that looms over him is what happens to Punk if he loses the match. We have heard him say over numerous times that a return to the WWE is not in the cards for him, but we know that not everyone stays away forever. I can’t picture that Dana White would be willing to give Punk a third chance at trying to get a win if he loses to Mike Jackson. I’m sure all the UFC purists and wrestling haters will confirm that if he loses he does not belong in the MMA world. While all of that may be true, you can not fault a guy for trying to see if he can succeed at something. Way too often do we always cut people down for trying something and I have seen it numerous times in sports. No one blasted Conor McGregor who did the unthinkable at the time for going from the MMA world to professional boxing where he lost to Floyd Mayweather in what was arguably a fixed fight. We all knew that Conor wasn’t going to win, but we wanted to believe it. So, why can’t we believe that CM Punk can do it tonight in Chicago? It’s going to be a long fight for Punk, but I think he can pull it off tonight. There are a lot of great matches on the main card as well that you can see below, but tune in tonight for UFC 225.

WWE Royal Rumble 2018: My Thoughts and Predictions

Royal_Rumble_2018_PosteeI am going to start off this article by just saying that no matter how the Women’s Royal Rumble match turns out, I am 100% proud of all those women who are taking women’s wrestling to a whole new level. That is the last time that I am going to address that match tonight, but I am here to talk about the 31ST ever Royal Rumble PPV which takes place at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. There are a lot of matches on the card that are just fillers or duds and I have a good reason for saying that. First of all, do not be surprised if The Usos, the best tag team on Smackdown drops the belts tonight due to the recent troubles that Jey Uso has just been through. Enzo Amore was dropped from the company due to his troubles so instead of awarding the belt to someone new, we just have a six man tag match. As much as I love to laugh, I can’t see the point of having Jason Jordan be a champion with Seth Rollins. I mean, Seth deserves more than that, the man is a former WWE Champion that deserves a shot at the belt as much as anyone else.

21e9ecce7fe594aa4764eaa176522a5c_crop_exactNow the real matches to talk about are matches like the triple threat match for the WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar defending it against Kane and Braun Strowman. You have AJ Styles defending the WWE Championship against both Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn not in a triple threat match, but a handicap match. Then there’s the Royal Rumble matches itself and I have to be honest in saying that the WWE needs to step it up big time as far as that match is concerned. I am going to say that the Pre-show match between The Club (Gallows & Anderson) and The Revival could actually have the potential to be a great match after all. The WWE needs to listen to the crowd and hand Braun the damn title already, the man is so over with the crowd and he works every single week which is a bonus. He’s not a part timer like Brock or a once in a while guy like Kane. Make the right choices moving forward this year WWE, no one wants to see Roman Reigns headline another WrestleMania. With that being said, Shinsuke Nakamura is the only logical winner moving forward unless it’s Finn Balor on the other end.

DURSKZaV4AAPp98.0So, with the fact that I just mentioned Shinsuke, you know I want AJ Styles to walk out of Philly with the WWE title just like the Patriots are going to walk out of Minnesota SuperBowl champions (I’m a good heel I know). The only other way, I’ll expect Brock winning tonight is if Finn Balor wins the Royal Rumble. I just think the man deserves his shot at the title and why not have the Beast vs the Demon. We could also easily have the Monster Among Men vs the Demon as well. The Philly crowd looks pumped up (just check out Barstool sports) and ready to enjoy this amazing PPV and so should you because after all history is being made tonight right in front of your eyes. I am only expecting a win from Bayley, Asuka, or Nia Jax. I am sorry ladies of Smackdown Live, but the win is going to Raw. I was originally hoping for a win from Paige, but Sasha Banks ruined that. I want a surprise return of AJ Lee tonight for the women and I am still holding on to hopes of a CM Punk return or even Tyson Kidd on the men’s side. That is another thing I look forward to the most tonight is the surprise entrants. Here are my predictions for tonight:

Braun Strowman wins the WWE Universal Championship

AJ Styles retains the WWE Championship

Bobby Roode retains the US Championship

Gable & Benjamin win the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Titles

Cesaro & Sheamus win The WWE Raw Tag Team Championships

The Revival will defeat The Good Brothers

Kalisto, Gran Metalik, and Lince Dorado will win

Shinsuke Nakamura will win the Royal Rumble match

Asuka will win the Women’s Royal Rumble match

Main Event Madness: CM Punk Vs Cesaro

Aksana, Antonio Cesaro, Chris Hero, CM Punk, Jim Ross, Kassius Ohno, Main Event, Main Event Madness, NXT, NXT Champion, Seth Rollins, William Regal, WWE, WWE Champion, WWE NXT, WWE United States Championship

4The match that we chose for today started out as a singles match between then US Champion Antonio Cesaro and then WWE Champion CM Punk. The match caught my eye because it wasn’t in a WWE ring, but in NXT at Full Sail University. I thought it was the coolest and weirdest thing so I decided to watch the match especially considering how much I miss CM Punk. The match started with CM Punk throw some kicks at Cesaro like they were jabs, but Cesaro was going to quickly learn that Punks collar and elbow tie up game was on point. Much of what happens next doesn’t quite matter because it’s a turn of events that will change the very make up of the match. After escaping a good headlock from Cesaro that was applied for a least a couple of minutes with a suplex, Punk was on a roll. He was hitting Cesaro with some good knife edge chops and a body slam to set him up for an elbow. When Punk got to the very top to hit, Kassius Ohno (Chris Hero) showed up and knocked Punk off of the top forcing the referee to call the match. As both men were attacking Punk after the bell, NXT Champion Seth Rollins came to the aid of CM Punk.

40After the ring was cleared, Punk would issue a challenge to Cesaro and Ohno in the form of a tag match with Seth as his tag team partner. Cesaro and Ohno started to walk away which forced Rollins and Punk to chase them up the ramp and they brought them back to the ring. Punk would start the match with Ohno, but it was very brief as he tagged Rollins in and he laid Ohno down on his knee with Rollins climbing the rope and coming down on Ohno. The crowd was dubbing Punk and Rollins the “Kings Of Wrestling” during the beginning stages of the match. After another quick assault and tag, Ohno was finally able to separate himself from Punk to make the tag to Cesaro, but Cesaro was in for some punishment with a quick toe hold from Punk that was quickly turned into a dangerous Muta Lock. Luckily for him, he made it to the ropes before it was too late. Cesaro seriously needed to regroup with Ohno because Punk and Rollins were in full control.

41The team’s break would finally come when Aksana grabbed Seth Rollins foot who was looking to do a springboard move of sorts, but ended up getting the boot of Cesaro to the face. Cesaro and Ohno were working like a fine oiled machine surprisingly as they continued to assault Rollins as they made frequent tags to keep themselves fresh at all times. Anytime Rollins tried to create separation, they would cut him off with some impressive kicks from Ohno. There was one moment when Punk tried to fire up Rollins by getting the crowd involved and it looked like it was working as Rollins was hammering away on the both of them, but then Ohno caught him square in the face with a big boot that stopped that. At one point, Rollins was able to separate himself from Cesaro, but when he went to make the tag to Punk, Punk wasn’t there thanks to the legal man Ohno making sure of that. Punk coming into the ring to retaliate back allowed Cesaro and Ohno to bring Rollins back to their corner. Cesaro and Ohno were really looking like a dangerous tag team and it’s too bad that nothing ever came of this combination in NXT or the WWE.

42Cesaro tried to keep Rollins grounded and away from Punk, but that obviously wouldn’t last very long after an enziguri allowed him some time to tag Punk in. Punk exploded out of his corner and into the ring at a poor Ohno who wasn’t expecting that at all. After a springboard clothesline, a back heel kick to the face, and a swinging neckbreaker, Punk set him up for the step up high knee to the face in the corner and the running bulldog right afterwards. Punk tried to set Ohno up for the GTS, but Ohno countered out of that. Ohno tried to set Punk up for the rolling elbow shot, but he missed and punk hit him with a bodyslam. Punk would climb the ropes and he’d hit Ohno with the flying elbow drop, but during the pinfall attempt, the referee was not there and Cesaro would attack Punk. After failing to double team Punk, CM had Ohno in the air for a GTS (and hit hit succesfully) and Rollins hits Cesaro with a skywalker. Punk covered him and they got the 1-2-3 for the win. After the match, JR mentioned something about how somewhere, someday that we would see this match, but unfortunately we never did get to see this match at all. Countdown To WrestleMania 33: Day 25: Money In The Bank Ladder Match

money-in-the-bank4One of the most iconic matches in WrestleMania history was the ladder match when we first saw it with Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon. The match of course has evolved over the years with a triangle ladder match, TLC match, and then the Money In The Bank Ladder match which was first introduced at WrestleMania 21. Like anything, the match would eventually evolve and become an annual pay per view like the TLC match. At WrestleMania XXV, the match would return yet again and CM Punk was looking to win the match once again as he did at WrestleMania XXIV. If he was going to be successful, he would have to do so against Christian, Shelton Benjamin, Kane, Finlay, Montel Vontavious Porter, Kofi Kingston and Mark Henry. We all know that the beauty of matches like these are the various spots that happen during the match. When the match started, Kane and Mark Henry basically cleared the ring sending everyone out before attacking each other. Henry was in full control in the ring until Christian and Shelton Benjamin used a ladder together to take the two biggest men out of the match.

62Kofi was the first to razzle and dazzle us as he leaped over the ladder and nailed them with a dropkick and then proceeded to hit a boom drop on top of the ladder. The competitors were smart as they did their best to take Kane and Henry out of the picture again until they all climbed a ladder. The next big spot that followed started with Fit Finlay hitting a suicide dive to the outside of the ring. Christian would get up and he would hit a crossbody to the outside hitting Finlay, Kane, and Benjamin. MVP would turn himself into a human cannonball as he nailed all of them on the outside. Punk and Kingston would look at each other in the ring with no ladders and they would hit all of them with a suicide dive each at the same time. Then out of nowhere, Shelton Benjamin climbed one of the bigger ladders and did a swan dive on to all the wrestlers on the outside so he wasn’t outdone by everyone. Then all of a sudden, it looked like Mark Henry was going to attempt to jump on the crowd, but Finlay rescued everyone by hitting Henry with the Shillelagh which was a definite life saver.

63In a very funny occurrence, Hornswoggle decided to get in on the fun and Finlay set up the little ladder and he did a five star frog splash onto everyone on the outside. After Kofi was able to stop Finlay from climbing the ladder with trouble in paradise, Mark Henry was able to stop him by simply pushing the ladder down. Mark was trying to set up the ladder, when Kofi started climbing it with Henry still holding it up. Henry slams the ladder down against the ropes and grabs Kofi for a world’s strongest slam on top of the ladder. At one point, MVP had set up a ladder inside of the main ladder that was standing up. Shelton Benjamin tried to use the ladder as a springboard, but MVP caught him and powerbombed him to the mat. All of a sudden as MVP started to climb, CM Punk was there to cut him off, but as soon as he attempted it, Christian delivered the unprettier off of the ladder and on to the mat. It was all out war in the ring and you really did need to have eyes in the back of your head because soon as you think one guy is gone, another appears.

64How much more could these wrestlers possibly take in this match and who in the world was going to be able enough to do so? Shelton Benjamin looked like he was in full control as he attempted to do a sunset flip powerbomb off the ladder, but he ended up botching it. It didn’t matter much because Shelton would just end up powerbombing MVP out of the ring anyways. Fast forward a little into the match, CM Punk is being hung up upside down on the ladder with his leg keeping him from falling. Christian is trying to grab the suitcase when Kane decides to climb the ladder. Kane disposes of Christian with a choke slam off the ladder so it looks like Kane has a clear shot at the briefcase. Punk is finally able to re-position himself on the ladder and he begins to use the educated feet as he kicks Kane off the ladder and once Kane is down, he reaches for it. Much to the dismay of the wrestlers, he is successful in grabbing it as he has now won it two years in a row. Hey, don’t forget to like our page on Facebook at Facebook.com/MRXPUNCHOUT and follow us on Twitter too.

UntitledWhether you love him or you chant that he sucks every single time he comes out to the ring, there is no denying that the hardest working man in the WWE is none other than John Cena. He has been the face that runs the place for a very long time and you can’t have a countdown without him as well as his opponent at WrestleMania 22 than the cerebral assassin, The Game, Triple H. After he failed to win the Royal Rumble that year, Triple took part in the road to WrestleMania tournament which was put on to determine a number one contender for the then WWE Champion John Cena. After going through both the Big Show and Rob Van Dam in the finals, Triple H was poised and ready to take on John Cena. The match featured some cool entrances in the beginning with Triple H coming out as Conan The Destroyer and John Cena having gangsters in prohibition style suits and Tommy-guns (CM Punk is one of the guys in a suit). When the match first started, they both tested each other in mat wrestling skills and Triple H got the better of the exchange with a slap to the back of the head to Cena.

53Triple H continued to school Cena with a simple wrist lock right into a hammer lock and a push off with his boot to Cena’s butt. The challenger was riding the momentum and the roar of the crowd as he continued to embarrass Cena with a big right hand to the jaw that was a reversal out of the AA. Then on the collar and elbow tie up, he kneed Cena in the stomach and just threw him out of the ring. What was going through the mind of the champion who was being embarrassed by the cerebral assassin? Well, Cena had had enough, he stormed back into the ring and began throwing rights and lefts at the challenger stunning him. Then Cena began to follow that up with a backbody drop and a fisherman’s suplex, but on the ensuing pinfall cover, Triple H would kick out. We finally had a fight on our hands with the unorthodox Cena and the old school Triple H. Cena continued working on Triple H with a sleeper hold, but as soon as Triple H tried to fight back, John was right on top of it by delivering an Irish whip to the corner that sent Triple H out of the ring.

54Triple H tried to change the momentum with a thumb to the eye and a pedigree on the steel entrance ramp, but was backbody dropped on it instead. A Harley Race like high knee to the head was all Triple H needed to swing the momentum his way as he began just hammering away at Cena and then he threw Cena right into the steel ring steps on the outside. Triple H was just taking it to Cena, not allowing him to have any offense and if he did, he got a facebuster and a lariat for his troubles from Triple H. After a while, both men began to just exchange rights and lefts with each other and unfortunately for the Game, Cena got the best of the exchange ending it with a big powerslam. After a modified powerbomb from Cena, he would attempt the five knuckle shuffle, but he took too long and Triple H countered with a spinebuster. All of a sudden out of nowhere, Cena powered up and hit Triple H with two shoulder blocks, a modified side suplex (because Triple H had him in a sleeper hold), and the five knuckle shuffle.

55Super Cena was born and he was pumped up and ready to rock. After pumping his Reebok pumps, he executed a drop toe hold and put Triple H right into his STFU submission. Would Triple H tap out or would he reach the ropes. It looked grim for a minute, but then Triple H willed himself over to the ropes breaking the hold. After John tried to deliver an AA to Triple H, but Triple H countered by slamming him into the corner against the referee and then he conveniently delivered a low blow that also struck the referee. Triple H then proceeded to exit the ring to grab what JR called the “difference maker” being the sledgehammer and brought it into the ring. As soon as he brought in, Cena tried to block with a kick to the midsection, but as soon as he hit the ropes, he returned to receive the sledgehammer shot to the head. Triple H covered him, but Cena kicked out at two. Then out of nowhere, Cena hit Triple H with the AA (It was called an FU at the time), but Triple H kicked out at two on the ensuing cover. Cena then uncharacteristically went to the top to attempt a cross body that completely missed, but it didn’t matter because when Triple H tried for the pedigree, Cena countered it into an STFU. Then much to the dismay of the crowd, Triple H tapped out.

ufc_205_event_posterThe last time we reported about a UFC event here on Mr. X’s Punch Out, we were reviewing the CM Punk/Mickey Gall fight (UFC 203). Tonight the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) is putting on heck of an event on Pay Per View in UFC 205 which comes to us from Madison Square Garden in New York City. What is the significance of the event you ask? Well this is the first time the UFC is going to hold an event in New York state since the ban on MMA was lifted earlier this year. The last time the UFC had an event in New York State was September 8, 1995 for UFC 7 which saw Ken Shamrock take on Oleg Taktarov in the Superfight main event. That is 21 years ago and 198 UFC events ago which is huge. New York has always been the mecca for sports like Wrestling and Boxing so it’s only right that the UFC get a shot at the big apple. The other significance of the event is that it has one heck of a main card and one power packed undercard to boot. Dana White has really stacked the card to make this one memorable night for all mixed martial arts fans.

008_eddie_alvarez_and_conor_mcgregor-0-0The fight that I am really looking forward to is the champion vs champion main event card that see’s the WWE’s public enemy number one and UFC Featherweight champion Conor McGregor challenging UFC Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez for Alvarez’s Lightweight title. The match has had so much hype behind especially with the WWE tactics that McGregor pulled at the weigh in (stealing the title). It’ll be interesting to see if he can jump weight classes and be the pound for pound best or will Alvarez simply put him in his place. The card also features two other championship matches like UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley defending it against Stephen Thompson and Women’s Strawweight Champion Joanna Jędrzejczyk against Karolina Kowalkiewicz. The rest of the card is rounded out with Chris Weidman taking on Yoel Romero and Miesha Tate taking on Raquel Pennington. The undercard features a great match as Frankie Edgar takes on Jeremy Stephens and undefeated Russian lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov taking on UFC vet Michael Johnson. The card can’t get any better than this especially if you are a MMA fan. I am going to try my best and make some predictions for the night (Main Card Only) and hopefully I come out on top.

Conor McGregor will defeat Alvarez by KO in Round One

Stephen Thompson will win by TKO against Woodley in round three

Joanna Jędrzejczyk will win by decision against Kowalkiewicz

Chris Weidman will defeat Yoel Romero by TKO in round three

Miesha Tate wins by decision
