mr-x-top-5-copy (1)We are back again with another edition of The Top Matches of the week and this was an amazing week of wrestling especially in the WWE. There is so much wrestling at our fingertips that it’s absolutely mind blowing. There is Smackdown On Fox on Friday night, MLW Fusion every Saturday night, Raw on Mondays, Impact on Tuesdays, NXT on USA Network and AEW Dynamite on TNT on Wednesday nights, and Beyond Wrestling Uncharted Territory on Thursday nights. As you can see, you can occupy your week well if you try to watch all the wrestling promotions in the world right now, but my job is to give you what I thought was the best of every show that I watched during the week. So, get some refreshments, take a seat, and let me be your guide to the wonderful world of professional wrestling. Now the style is going to be a little different in the way that if there is more than one great match then they’ll just be short descriptions, but if not then we’ll go over the match. I also want to remind all of you that can catch my Top 5 of the week on the podcast Eddie Valiant’s Hot Take here. That is where I look at all the matches I have listed here and I pick the five best of all of them.

WWE Smackdown (12/27/2019)

1The last Friday night Smackdown of 2019 kicked off with one heck of a match as The New Day and Braun Strowman took on the team of Sami Zayn, Cesaro, and Shinsuke Nakamura. For the most part, Nakamura and Cesaro did most of the work (Zayn never tagged in once) as they dominated Kofi for most of the match until he tagged in Braun who took care of business which included a huge powerslam that was enough to get the pinfall victory over Nakamura. The other great match of the night was the triple threat match that almost didn’t happen, but did as King Corbin, Daniel Bryan, and The Miz were all battling for a shot at Bray Wyatt. King Corbin made himself a presence in the match which included some help from Dolph Ziggler until Roman Reigns fixed that and took Corbin out of the picture. What followed was an excellent match between Bryan and The Miz as it was a battle of the LaBell lock vs the figure four leg lock and Daniel made The Miz tap to the LaBell Lock.

WWE RAW (12/30/3019)

Without a shadow of a doubt, the match of the night honors belongs to two men who tore it up at WWE TLC and they did the same thing on RAW, I am talking about the opening contest of the night as Aleister Black took on Buddy Murphy in a rematch and throughout the match it looked like Murphy was going to have the upper hand again, but after reversing Murphy’s Law into a near fall, Black would hit Murphy with not one, but two Black Masses for the 1-2-3. In a decent match, The Street Profits handed The OC a big loss making them the best tag team in the multiverse after Ford hit the frog splash on Anderson. Zelina Vega turned out to be a huge asset for Andrade as he took on Ricochet from exposing the concrete on the outside to knocking him off the top rope allowing Andrade to hit the Hammerlock DDT for the win.

AEW Dynamite (1/1/2020)

Thew first time Cody Rhodes and Darby Allin met the match ended in a 20 minute draw so the second match was promising to be a classic. This time around, Cody had Arn Anderson in his corner and he proved to be a great commodity especially when Darby went for the Coffin drop and Arn instructed Cody to lift his knees just in time. Cody rolled up the hurt and stunned Allin for the 1-2-3. In the very next match, Riho defended the AEW Women’s Championship in a fatal four way match against Nyla Rose, Dr. Britt Baker DDS, and Hikaru Shida and these women put themselves through hell, but after Baker was unable to lock in the lockjaw submission on Shida, Riho rolled her up for the 1-2-3. Jon Moxley took on Trent Baretta in a one on one match that was actually entertaining. The night ended with a tremendous six man tag match that saw The Elite (Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks) start the new year right with a huge victory over The Lucha Brothers and PAC.

Honorable Mention:

The women’s tag match on Smackdown Live that saw Dana Brooke and Lacey Evans lose to Sasha Banks and Bayley was a pretty decent match. Lacey has definitely been improving since her rivalry with Becky Lynch ended. Charlotte Flair vs Natalya on RAW looked like a decent match, but it went on for too long in my opinion.

I also want to remind all of you that can catch my Top 5 of the week on the podcast Eddie Valiant’s Hot Take here. That is where I look at all the matches I have listed here and I pick the five best of all of them.

Ring Of Honor Final Battle 2019 (12/13/2019)

Bayley-Brooke-1It’s no secret that Ring Of Honor has been struggling since most of all their talent has been poached by the WWE or left to start AEW. Bully Ray took on Mark Haskins in what was a brutal battle as well as Bully Ray being the best heel in the world of wrestling. Unfortunately for him, he took a cheese grader to the nether regions courtesy of Mrs. Haskins and Mark took advantage to get the win. Dragon Lee went to battle with ROH TV Champ Shane Taylor. Taylor dominated most of the match, but those vicious knees from Lee was all it took for him to capture the TV Title. The Briscoes and Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham went to war at the event, but by hook or by crook, Lethal and Gresham were able to steal the tag team titles. I had to include this match in here because a 51 year old man who was blackballed in the industry had a spectacular 2019 and became the new Ring Of Honor World Champion as PCO did the unthinkable and beat Rush after Rush threw everything at him.

NWA Into The Fire (12/14/2019)

It’s NWA’s return to the PPV world and it had a pretty good card. Colt Cabana defended his NWA National Championship against not only Ricky Starks, but Aron Stevens as well. Stevens was almost a non factor and punching bag for the whole match. Thunder Rosa despite not knowing her opponent Tasha Steelz, she showed her true dominance in the match and hit a double stomp to get the win.

WWE TLC 2019 (12/15/2019)

Humberto Carrillo and Andrade kicked off the action on the pre-show and they tore the house down as they went counter for counter with each others moves and Andrade even saw some blood. Carrillo in the end was as impressive as ever as he hit a poisonrana and followed it up with a moonsault for the win. The New Day defended their tag team titles against The Revival in a ladder match and I would give these guys a week off especially The Revival who saw Wilder take a big ending from Big E off the ladder and then Dawson landed head first into a ladder after Kofi used the hanging titles as a weapon before he grabbed them for the win. Aleister Black and Buddy Murphy went to war and Murphy may have damaged Black’s Jaw with all the superkicks and knees to the face that he took, but it was a surprise Black Mass that put Murphy away.

WWE RAW (12/16/2019)

This was a decent episode, but kind of a let down from the action of the night before. The match that kind of saved the night was the Gauntlet match to determine the number one contender for Rey Mysterio’s United States Championship. The match started with R-Truth and Akira Tozawa, but the real action didn’t really get good until Tozawa took on Ricochet. From that point on, Ricochet stole the show with great matches against Tozawa, Matt Hardy, and Humberto Carrillo (which was the best one). The other match that was really good was the match between AJ Styles and Randy Orton who were finally meeting after weeks of getting in each other’s business. Surprisingly, AJ was in control of most of the match after locking in the calf crusher that took its toll against Randy, but like a Viper he finds a way to way. After faking Randy out the first time, he attempts another Phenomenal forearm, but he gets caught with an RKO and Randy takes the win.

NXT On USA (12/18/2019)

Screen-Shot-2019-12-18-at-9.07.28-PM-1-900x480It’s hard to pick just one or two matches from the whole entire show because almost all of the matches were great. The night opened up with the NXT Championship match that saw Adam Cole defend the title against Finn Balor in what was a great match where both men showcased their athleticism. After a distraction from Johnny Gargano, Adam Cole was able to retain the title. Killian Dane and Damian Priest went to war, but unfortunately for Priest he had a constant target in his hurt ribs and Dane took advantage of it. Don’t count him out though because when things looked bleak, Priest pulled off the win after getting his knees up during an attempted Vader Bomb to which he finishes with The Reckoning. Cameron Grimes vs Kushida was an all out battle as well, but a vicious double stomp from Grimes was all it took for him to win. Last week, Travis Banks was successful against Jaxson Ryker, but this week he took on the Bruiserweight Pete Dunne in what was an all out battle. Dunne would get the win after a huge superplex that he was able to hit to which he followed up with a kick and the bitter end to seal the victory. In the final match, Rhea Ripley was willing to put it all on the line as she took on NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler. They threw everything at eahc other throughout the match, but we all know how dangerous Shayna is especially with the Kirifuda Clutch to which she locked in for several minutes. Rhea never gave up as she is able to get out of it. Baszler continues to work on her, but she makes the mistake of allowing the crowd to distract her. She sets Rhea up on the top turnbuckle, but when the crowd chants Rheas name, Baszler gets distracted and Rhea takes advantage by hitting a super riptide from the top which was all she needed to seal the victory and become the new NXT Women’s Champion.

AEW Dynamite (12/18/2019)

dark-order-aew-dynamiteNot the best episode they have put out all year, but a decent show. The night opened with The Lucha Brothers taking on Kenny Omega and Hangman Page, but this week they continued to struggle after Hangman makes the mistake of hitting his own partner which allowed Pentagon Jr. to hit the double stomp for the win. Kris Statlander was fantastic once again on AEW Dynamite as she grabbed a huge win over Dr. Britt Baker DDS earning her a shot at the AEW Women’s Champion Riho on New Years Day. Jungle Boy had to prove that he could wrestle and last ten minutes with the AEW Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho to which he did after spending the last 90 seconds of the ten minutes in the walls of Jericho. The Young Bucks and SCU did battle for the AEW Tag Team Championships, but SCU was just too good tonight after Kazarian was able to pin Matt Jackson after the SCU Later.

Honorable Mention:

While I thought it was a good match up, Matt Taven vs Vincent didn’t quite live up to the hype that I thought it would be. Still both of these men did their best and Taven sold it well at Final Battle. Maria Manic came out, she destroyed Angelina Love and Mandy Leon establishing that she is the dominant female, but Angelina did not get one ounce of offense in the whole match at Final Battle. On NWA Powerrr, Zicky Dice won his qualifying match to compete for the TV Title against CW Anderson and Sal Rinauro. I love the new rule that you have to win a match in 6:05 to be TV Champ. In relatively short fashion, The Wildcards disposed of The Dawsons in a decent tag team match on NWA Powerrr. I am a huge fan of Deonna Purrazzo and was so proud to see her debut against Auska on RAW, but do you really think they’d make Auska look weak? The Butcher and The Blade vs Cody Rhodes & Darby Allin on AEW Dynamite was good, but not enough to earn it’s way to the top matches.

Now the style is going to be a little different in the way that if there is more than one great match then they’ll just be short descriptions, but if not then we’ll go over the match.

WWE RAW (12/9/2019)

The match of the night and maybe my match of the week was between Humberto Carrillo and Andrade. I don’t know what Humberto did to Andrade, but he fired him up and the match was absolutely amazing. One thing all wrestling writers need to take notes on: Humberto who is a babyface found a way to avoid Zelina’s interference to puck up the huge win against Andrade. Becky Lynch vs The Kabuki Warriors was a decent match, but it did what I thought it would and that is show that the Kabuki Warriors were too good to be defeated by one person. The final good match of the night was the United States Championship match between Rey Mysterio and AJ Styles. The two went back and forth showcasing why they were the best of their gens and Randy even did his best work in this match.

Impact Wrestling (12/10/2019)

Acey Romero made his Impact Wrestling TV I believe against the dirtiest player in Impact in Moose. These two put on quite the show for the crowd as they threw everything they had at each other. At times, it looked like Moose was getting frustrated because he couldn’t put Acey Baby away, but all it took was a spear and no jackhammer needed for Moose to pick up the win. The tag team match to determine the number one contenders for The North at Hard To Kill in January saw Reno SCUM take on The Rascalz, oVe, and Rich Swann & Willie Mack. Well Mack was in the match at the beginning, but a high risk maneuver took him out and left Swann on his own, but it didn’t matter because Swann punched their ticket to the PPV with a roll up win over Dave Crist.

NXT On USA (12/11/2019)

The first match of the night usually sets the tone and this one was no different as Lio Rush defended his NXT Cruiserweight Championship against Angel Garza who is regular of this blog in what was an epic match that could be match of the year material. Lio went to the well once too many times and he tried to land the frog splash on the outside of the ring, but Garza stuck his knees up just in time. Once in the ring, Garza hit the winged clipper, but Rush kicked out in the ensuing pin attempt, but no matters because Garza locked in a full nelson submission that was all it took as Rush tapped out. The triple threat match to decide the number one contender for the following week is the other match of the night as Tommaso Ciampa, Keith Lee, and Finn Balor gave it all they had. It looked like at times that Keith Lee was going to take the win, but Finn is a veteran who knows how to pick his spots and he stole the win.

AEW Dynamite (12/11/2019)

The Butcher and The Blade made their debut this week as they battled Cody Rhodes and QT Marshall in what was a surprisingly good match. QT looked a little rough at times, but he added to the magic of the match and you were hoping for some kind of miracle, but The Butcher and The Blade were too good with their suplex/lung blower combo. The tag team match that saw Shawn Spears and Kip Sabian team up to take on Hangman Adam Page and Kenny Omega looked a little rough for both teams as far as chemistry was concerned, but it was a really good match. The last match of the night saw one heck of a Texas street fight that saw The Young Bucks and Santana & Ortiz throw everything but the kitchen sink at each other. Not to mention all the different people that got involved in the match made it interesting as well.

Honorable Mention:

At GCW W.O.M.B.A.T 2., Tony Deppen had an interesting contest against Levi Everett, an Amish wrestler who was dominating the match until Deppen grabbed a little bit of his trunks for the roll up and win. Travis Banks picked up a big win for NXT UK when he defeated Jaxson Ryker on NXT On USA. Dakota Kai earned a huge victory whether it be by hook or by crook over Mia Yim on NXT. Luchasaurus and Sammy Guevara had a pretty decent match of power vs speed on AEW Dynamite.

mr-x-top-5 copyIt has been a while since the last time I did The Top Matches Of The Week, but we are back in business again. Now the style is going to be a little different in the way that if there is more than one great match then they’ll just be short descriptions, but if not then we’ll go over the match.

AEW Full Gear (11/9/2019)

IMG_5787This might not have been the first pay per view for AEW, but it was definitely there first that was built up with a weekly show. The card was stacked with matches that had the potential to steal the show, but only two matches did that in my opinion with one being honorable mention. The night started out with an amazing slug fest between The Bastard PAC and Hangman Adam Page. At times, it looked like PAC was going to remain undefeated, but right in the end, Page was able to block PAC’s cheating ways en route to a win. The other match that was absolutely amazing, but in the end was absolutely insane was the Lights Out match between Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega. These two put each through literal hell with a barbwired covered baseball bat, broken glass, a board with mouse traps, and even a barbwired bed, but when it was all said and done, Jon Moxley survived the insanity and was victorious.

NXT On USA (11/13/2019)

This was an interesting week for NXT because for the first time I wasn’t thoroughly impressed with the product. I thought the opening match between WWE Cruiserweight Champion Lio Rush and Angel Garza absolutely set the tone for the rest of the night that wasn’t really matched. These two went above and beyond showcasing why they are the top talent in NXT and why we should get a rematch. The next match on the list was a match between rising star Isaiah “Swerve” Scott and Bronson Reed which was a nice mixture of speed and agility vs pure power. They didn’t have the match of the night, but Isaiah continues to impress me especially with the fact that it shows he can work with anyone no matter the size or weight difference. The last match on the list was the last match of the night as Io Shirai took on Mia Yim in a ladder match to determine who got the advantage at WarGames. The match started a little rough, but these two carried it for the remainder of the show and Mia Yim may have suffered the most damage as she not only suffered damage to her nose, but she was attacked by Kay Lee Ray and Shayna Baszler as Io climbed the ladder to victory.

AEW Dynamite (11/13/2019)

EJSqPrHXkAA1iAr-960x540On a night that featured short matches and great moments that build future rivalries, there were only two matches on the whole card that impressed me the most from AEW Dynamite. The rubber match between “The Bastard” PAC and Hangman Adam Page was almost just as good as their AEW Full Gear match and proved that these two can be exciting. PAC was his usual brutal self at the end of the match as he stomped away at Page’s head before putting on that Rings of Saturn like submission called the brutalizer for the win. The second match on the card that impressed me was the main event that saw AEW World Champion Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevera take on AEW World Tag Team Champions SCU (Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky). Sammy Guevara put in a lot more work then Jericho did in the match, but it was competitive and Scorpio Sky continues to shine as he was able to get the pinfall victory over Jericho (the first time Jericho has been pinned).

Honorable Mention:

Cody Rhodes promised that if he didn’t beat Chris Jericho at AEW Full Gear, he would never challenge for the belt again. Unfortunately for him, MJF threw in towel and Jericho retained his championship. Riho had the tough task of taking on her teacher Emi Sakura and believe me this was close to ending up there because there was so much heart from Riho, but not quite there. Darby Allin was supposed to take on “The Chairman” Shawn Spears and The Librarian Peter Avalon in a triple threat match on AEW Dynamite, but thanks to Joey Janela’s interference it became a singles squash match for Allin who after the match accepted Moxley’s challenge for next week.

mr-x-top-5 copyAs I have said many many times and I’ll say it again there is an abundance of wrestling at our disposal that it’s almost a dream come true because I remember being a teenager and wanting more wrestling than just the WWE and WCW because they were only on certain nights of the week. Now, we live in a world where you are getting WWE’s programming (RAW, Smackdown Live, 205 Live, NXT, NXT UK plus PPV’s when applicable), Impact Wrestling (free on Twitch), and so much independent wrestling whether it be Ring Of Honor TV on Fite, or all the various independent promotions that are on Independent Wrestling TV like Beyond Wrestling and ICW New York to name a few. Now, we are in the midst of a revolution in wrestling especially since AEW debuted with Double Or Nothing and with the fact that they have a weekly show coming in September. So with all this wrestling going on, I am once again here to present to you guys what I consider to be the top matches of the week from all the promotions that I have watched. If there is any match I may have missed and you think I should check it out then tweet me @EddieValiant82 on Twitter. Here are the matches that I believe you should check out, but to hear what my match of the week was, you’ll have to tune into my podcast Five Star Wrestling Podcast to find out when we read our five star moments/match of the week.

Josh Briggs Vs Anthony Greene (Evolve 131 7/13/2019)

agIt’s the tenth anniversary special from Evolve wrestling and what a way to start it off then two of the best in the indies in Josh Briggs and the Retrosexual Anthony Greene in our opening contest. For those of us that follow Indy wrestling, we know who these two are, but for those that don’t they were in for a treat as these two brought it right from the get go. Josh Briggs would use his size to his advantage for the beginning of the match and when he needed it later, it came in handy. Anthony Greene though was scrappy and he wasn’t going to let Josh walk away with an easy win as he did what any smart competitor does. He did his homework and for most of the match he worked on the once injured hip of Josh Briggs. We thought for sure at times that Anthony was some how going to steal a win, but Briggs wouldn’t quit as well and when the opportunity arose he took it in the form of a choke slam into a powerbomb that was all it took to declare Josh Briggs the winner.

Jeff Cobb vs Tomohiro Ishii (NJPW G1 Climax 29 Day 2 7/13/2019)

g1When you think of these two men, the words that pop into your head is that this is going to be one intense heavyweight battle between Jeff Cobb and the “Stone Pitbull” Tomohiro Ishii and they did not disappoint. These two monsters of men were throwing everything they could at each other whether it be shoulder blocks by Cobb or some vicious slaps and forearm/elbow shots from Ishii that found their mark. It was truly a back and forth battle as both men were vying to get a 1st win in the G1 Climax 29 tournament. I mean they were literally throwing everything from dueling vertical suplexes, tons of exchanges like slaps and headbutts, and even more suplexes. At one point, Cobb would hit Ishii with a Urinagi suplex, but Ishii got right back up, countered the lariat, and hit Cobb with a dragon suplex. At one point, the action was just too much for Cobb who couldn’t hit his patent tour of the islands due to his back giving out and Ishii took advantage. They’d go through a few more exchanges that found Cobb hitting the mat and Ishii would follow up with a seated lariat and then a brainbuster that found it’s mark allowing Ishii to cover Cobb for the 1-2-3.

Kenny Omega vs Cima (AEW Fight For The Fallen 7/13/2019)

aewOut of all the matches that were on AEW’s Fight For The Fallen card, this was one of the matches that I wanted to see the most. It was hard to comprehend with all the experience that both Kenny Omega and Cima have that this was the first time these two would meet in action. This was also a match that had a lot riding on the line for both competitors in the match as Kenny was still looking for a singles win while Cima who trains all of the OWE wrestlers was looking to build off of his successful win over Christopher Daniels the month before. For the most part, it looked like Kenny had a gameplan as he attacked the knees of Cima, but after receiving a meteroa from Cima on top of the bell keepers table, Cima would be in control of the match. Despite receiving four more Meteroas during the match, Omega was not giving up. After knees to the back of the head and a tiger driver 98 from Omega, Cima would kick out, but unfortunately the one winged angel would put him away for good.

Cody Rhodes/Dustin Rhodes vs The Young Bucks (AEW Fight For The Fallen 7/13/2019)

aew 1There was a lot of tension in the air when this match went underway because even at home I could feel it as I watched Dustin and Cody Rhodes take on the Matt and Nick Jackson of The Young Bucks. The two teams definitely matched the tension with intensity as both teams brought it as when the match began Cody and Nick went move for move. It was when Dustin was tagged in that momentum shifted and they began teeing away on Dustin, but eventually in the match one mistake almost changed the complexity of the match when Matt went to bury his shoulder into Cody and instead caught the ring post. In turn, being the savvy veterans that they are, you can bet your last bottom dollar that Cody and Dustin went after that shoulder. Despite everything they tried though, they couldn’t put the Young Bucks away and the Bucks eventually rose to the occasion hitting stereo superkicks and a Meltzer driver to Cody that put the match away leaving the Young Bucks undefeated in AEW.

The Hart Foundation vs The Dynasty (MLW Fusion 7/13/2019)

mlwSome time ago, The Dynasty had stolen one of the tag team belts off of a member of The Hart Foundation so a challenge was issued for a ladder match and the challenge was accepted. So, it was Teddy Hart and Brian Pillman Jr. defending the tag titles against The Dynasty’s Richard Holiday and MJF in a ladder match. Questions were swirling around the Dynasty especially in MJF who seemed to be scared of climbing the ladder and eventually it showed as MJF at one point made Aria Blake climb the ladder for him because Holiday was indisposed of at the time and it backfired. The two teams continued to go to war throwing everything at each other including MJF going through a door. It looked like it was Pillman’s time to climb the ladder, but then Alexander Hammerstone came and interfered in the match. Even though Davey Boy Smith Jr came down to even the odds, it wasn’t enough. Both Richard Holiday and Brian Pillman Jr. climbed the ladder, but Aria Blake would prove to be a worthy distraction as Holiday disposed of Pillman by hitting him with a chair. As Pillman hit the mat, Holiday reached out and grabbed the belts.

Kenta vs Hiroshi Tanahashi (NJPW G1 Climax 29 Day 3 7/14/2019)

kenta 2A match with a lot riding on the line as far as respect is concerned as the one common thread between Kenta and Hiroshi Tanahashi is Katsuyori Shibata. Shibata helped Tanahashi get into to shape to win last year’s G1 Climax tournament and he was here to do the same for Kenta this year. Tanahashi was in full control of the match when it started, but made the mistake of bringing the fight to the outside where Kenta took over. Throughout the match, Kenta was really stepping up his striking game with Tanahashi to the point that if looked like Tanahashi was about to have the advantage, Kenta was able to shut it down with a flurry of kicks. At one point in the match, it looked like Tanahashi was going to win the match with his flurry of sling blades and a huge cross body from the top rope that sort of landed, but on his last attempt at a splash from the top rope, Kenta was able to get his knees up. Kenta would follow it up with a PK and then his patent GTS (Go To Sleep) that left Tanahashi seeing stars as Kenta got the 1-2-3 and his second win of the tournament.

Aleister Black Vs Cesaro (WWE Extreme Rules 2019 7/14/2019)

pZx_U0cFIf there was ever physical evidence as to why two men should be at the top of the food chain in the WWE, then last night at WWE Extreme Rules Aleister Black and Cesaro provided said evidence. It was the first singles match in Aleister Black’s WWE PPV career and he asked for someone to knock on his door and the Swiss Cyborg did just that and the end result took your breath away. The match started with Black looking like he was in full control until Cesaro was able to dump him to the outside. Cesaro would then nail what had to be the move of the match with a springboard European uppercut that hit it’s mark. Cesaro brought the fight to Aleister, but Aleister held it together with his martial arts strikes. The other wow moment of the match once again belonged to Cesaro who took a Meterora attempt and turned into another Euro uppercut. After trading strikes back and forth, Aleister out of nowhere hits the black mass and gets the win. One thing will be said, Cesaro definitely proved in this match that he deserves to be a champion.

Chad Gable Vs Jack Gallagher 2 (WWE 205 Live 7/16/2019)

205 liveThe first battle between Gentleman Jack Gallagher and Chad Gable was absolutely tremendous even though the match ended in a count out victory for Gable. I suppose that the result was eating away at the both of them as they wanted to prove who was the better man so on this week’s episode of 205 Live, they battled for a second time. Much like the action in the first fight, these two started the match going hold for hold and move for move as they tried to one up each other, but then the action heated up when Gable began focusing on the ankle and knee of Gallagher, but it didn’t phase him as they continued to go to war. At one point the action heated up as Gable went to the top to try and moonsault, but Gallagher was able to get his feet up just in time to catch Gable right on the chin sending him to the far corner where Gallagher then answered with an amazing missile drop kick. Gallagher then set up Gable right on the top turnbuckle where he proceeded to climb where he was looking to suplex Gable, but as soon as the two were in the air, Gable was able to readjust to hit a splash that sent Gallagher reeling. Gable being the professional that he is proceeded to grab Gallagher and he delivered a punishing rolling German suplex that was enough to secure the win for Chad Gable.

Honorable Mention:

I’m throwing in here, the match between Jay “Switchblade” White and Hirooki Goto from G1 Climax 29 Night 2 because what started as a war of words outside of the ring turned into an absolute war inside the ring. The triple threat tag team match that saw Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy vs The Dark Order vs Angélico and Jack Evans was a terrific match, but at times it looked like Dark Order struggled and the Marko Stunt spot was just lame in my opinion. I am putting Liv Morgan vs Charlotte Flair on WWE Smackdown for a reason and that is I am proud of Liv’s performance tonight. She has stepped up her game and I can imagine great things from her in the future. I’m adding Matt Riddle vs Drew Gulak from Evolve: 10TH Anniversary Special because it was a great match that had kind of a predictable ending.

mr-x-top-5As I said last week, there is an abundance of wrestling at our disposal that it’s almost a dream come true because I remember being a teenager and wanting more wrestling than just the WWE and WCW because they were only on certain nights of the week. Now, we are in the midst of a revolution in wrestling especially when AEW starts their weekly shows.

Cody Rhodes vs Dustin Rhodes (AEW Double Or Nothing 5/25/2019)

I love wrestling matches that evoke so many kind of emotions in you that you are just spent emotionally when the match is over. I love matches that do that because you become emotionally invested in those matches and it’s a sign of the oldest game in the wrestling business and that is pure storytelling. I could have picked any of the matches on the card from this show, but none hit me in the chest harder than Cody Rhodes vs Dustin Rhodes. This match is going to be a reminder to the WWE of what could have been back in 2015, but nonetheless the night started with a big message sent Triple H’s way courtesy of Cody and Brandi. The match itself was fantastic, but it took a different turn when Dustin was bleeding profusely from the head throughout the whole match even dying his brothers head red from all the blood. The ending sequence was poetic as both were hitting each other with the signature Cross Rhodes, but it was Cody that would finish the match on top. The tear jerking moment came at the end when Cody and Dustin finally embraced in the ring telling an amazing story.

The Young Bucks vs The Lucha Bros (AEW Double Or Nothing 5/25/2019)

This was a match that I believed was going to remind fans just how awesome tag team wrestling really is. See how I didn’t say that it was going to put it on the map and that is because tag team wrestling was at one time great and now it’s time to make Tag Team Wrestling great again. The Lucha Bros and the Young Bucks threw everything at each except the kitchen sink and they did a tremendous job paying tribute to some of the great tag teams of the past as well as other great indy wrestlers like the Motor City Machine Guns with the Made In Detroit, the top rope brainbuster like El Generico, a package powerbomb to pay tribute to Kevin Steen, and a Canadian Destroyer to pay tribute to Petey Williams. The action was intense, there was a lot of superkicks, but in the end the Young Bucks prevailed with a huge win to retain the AAA tag Team Titles. Sadly in my opinion, these were the top matches of the week as the WWE had no real answer for AEW and Beyond Wrestling had some honorable mentions like Chris Dickinson vs Filthy Tom Lawlor and even Chuck O’Neil vs Anthony Greene.

8Aeu4Rm9_400x400 (1)I think I speak for most of us in saying what a debut Pay Per View that was from AEW (All Elite Wrestling) who presented their first event Double Or Nothing last night at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. The event featured matches like Kenny Omega vs Chris Jericho 2, The Young Bucks vs The Lucha Bros, Cody Vs Dustin, and so many more matches. Although the review of the event stops here because if you want to here what we thought of the event, you’ll have to wait for the next episode of our podcast. In one of our episodes after WrestleMania, I said we were going to have a competition between the three of us for our first season of predictions and thanks to Pro Wrestling Scorecards, our first season is well underway. Eddie Valiant picked up the first win of the season last week while Juicy Josh finished second while Devin came in third. This week was a completely different story as you will see from the scorecards below and Devin picked up his first win of the season while Eddie finished in second. Unfortunately for Josh, he finished at the bottom of the ladder, but there is always next time which is NXT TakeOver 25. Check out the cards below, but in the meantime listen to our latest episode here.

Wrestle Kingdom 13 Does Not Disappoint

AEW, AJ Styles, All Elite Wrestling, Bushi, Chris Jericho, Cody Rhodes, El Desperado, Evil, Hiroshi Tanahashi, IWGP Heavyweight Championship, IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship, Japan, Jay White, Juice Robinson, Kazuchika Okada, Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi, Kushida, NEVER Openweight Championship, New Japan Pro Wrestling, NJPW, NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 13, RevPro British Heavyweight Championship, Roppongi 3K, Sanada, Shingo Takagi, Switchblade Jay White, Taiji Ishimori, Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa, Tetsuya Naito, The Young Bucks, Tokyo Dome, Tomohiro Ishii, Will Ospreay, Wrestle Kingdom 13, WWE, Yoshinobu Kanemaru, Zack Sabre Jr.

wk13New Japan Pro Wrestling’s annual WrestleMania like event Wrestle Kingdom 13 took place yesterday at The Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan with some sort of unrest in the air as some futures still lied uncertain. Nevertheless, the company did not disappoint the fans with the caliber of matches that were on the card and the wrestlers certainly delivered what would be one memorable night of wrestling. One word could be used to describe what we saw in the Tokyo Dome and that word is passion. That is exactly what was displayed in the ring and that was passion for the art and love of professional wrestling and that is why people will wake up at four in the morning eastern time just to watch this annual event. One match that definitely helped set the tone for the night was the very first match of the card that featured NEVER Openweight Champion Kota Ibushi who defended it against Will Ospreay in what ended in such a brutal fashion with Ospreay hitting Ibushi with a forearm that looked like it knocked Ibushi out. That match was followed by the first of two three way tag team matches with this one for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship as champions Yoshinobu Kanemaru and El Desperado defending against Roppongi 3K and Bushi and Shingo Takagi. It was definitely the better of the two matches as Bushi and Takagi were able to steal a victory.

47cf1-15465938408661-800The next match was a lesson in basic torture as Zack Sabre Jr. physically took apart and dissected “The Stone Pitbull” Tomohiro Ishii for The RevPro British Heavyweight Championship. If you love submission wrestling then Zack Sabre Jr. is the man to watch besides Jonathan Gresham. The next was the second of the three way matches and I just thought that while it did contain some good spots, it was just a little too sloppy for my liking as Sanada and Evil walked away the new champs. I didn’t know until after the event that Cody Rhodes shouldn’t have even been wrestling with the injuries he has, but he still gave a valiant effort even in defeat against Juice Robinson. Now we get to the matches that make it hard to choose just one for Match Of The Night. The first up was the very impressive match between “The Bone Solider” Taiji Ishimori who took on IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Kushida in a match who from start to finish gave us a match that was one of the best I have seen as both men left it out in the ring.

nkwk 13The next match featured the legendary “Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada who took on what could be the future of pro wrestling and the Bullet Club in “Switchblade” Jay White. I have to say that the last five minutes or so of this match was the best wrestling I had seen in a very long time. I am very impressed with what Jay White brings to the table and he will continue to be on my radar. The next match was a no DQ match that pitted IWGP Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho against the very strange Tetsuya Naito in a match that was worth the price of admission. I continue to be impressed with Jericho and how he has been able to hang and reinvent himself once again in New Japan. Naito won the match in what should be the finale of this rivalry and what a good one it was. The last match of the night pinned the IWGP Heavyweight Champion and former Bullet Club Leader Kenny Omega against the legend of NJPW “The Ace” Hiroshi Tanahashi who was looking to win the title for an eighth time. The match went almost 40 minutes in length falling just short of the mark and it never disappointed. Kenny Omega has mastered the art of fighting long matches and there never being a dull moment. Whether it was Tanahashi hitting Omega with the Styles Clash, Tanahashi going through a table, or just the high powered offense of Omega never left a dull moment in the ring.

njwk13Tanahashi would escape the clutches of the One Winged Angle to finish off Omega for good with a frog splash to claim the title for the eighth time. Both men left it all out in the ring as both men were visibly tired from what had transpired in the ring. The only question remaining now is where does Omega go from here? Does he take the same road that his predecessor AJ Styles took and go to the WWE? Or does he go with his mates in The Elite and sign with All Elite Wrestling? Only time will tell on what decision he makes in the coming months, but there is one more choice and that is he can resign with NJPW where he is considered a wrestling God. I am going to give the match of the night honors to Omega Vs Tanahashi, but just know that Ibushi vs Ospreay was a close second for me.

WWE Hell In A Cell 2018- My Thoughts & Predictions

Aiden English, AJ Styles, Alexa Bliss, All In, Becky Lynch, Braun Strowman, Brie Bella, Brock Lesnar, Charlotte Flair, Cody Rhodes, Daniel Bryan, Dean Ambrose, Dolph Ziggler, Drew McIntyre, Hell In A Cell, Hell In A Cell 2018, Jeff Hardy, John Cena, Maryse, Mick Foley, NXT, Randy Orton, Raw, Ronda Rousey, Rusev, Rusev Day, Samoa Joe, Smackdown Live, The Miz, The New Day, WWE, WWE Hell In A Cell, WWE Hell In A Cell 2018, WWE Network, WWE SummerSlam 2018

330px-Hell_in_a_Cell_2018_PPV_posterLast month, I tweeted all of my predictions for SummerSlam and it was not only because I was running out of time, but because I was disappointed in the product. I went into the night thinking that maybe the product wouldn’t totally suck, but they made some poor choices to go along with the really good ones. Nonetheless, I tried watching Raw the next night and I just could not take the product that they are producing. It’s so bad in my opinion that Smackdown Live is becoming the more appealing product. It’s becoming so bad that NXT is the supreme brand in that company and Cody Rhodes is looking more like a genius everyday. Did anyone happen to catch All In because that is how an event is done so the WWE should take notes. So to start out the convo about tonight’s pay per view which is Hell In A Cell, we have to look at what happened last month to lead to this one. For starters, we are getting the John Cena/Nikki Bella vs Miz and Maryse, but with Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella because why not? That in my opinion is a pre-show match because I don’t want to see it.

3f3c0-1536848699-800One of the biggest things I don’t understand is why did you have Ronda Rousey destroy Alexa Bliss in their first match to only give her a rematch? Is Ronda only going to destroy her again or is she going to have something up her sleeve this time around? It’s just frustrating because you want me to believe that Ronda is the baddest chick on the planet who just wrecks people, but tonight Alexa will have fought a better match this time around.  Why give Braun Strowman the Money In The Bank briefcase for him to treat it like he is John Cena? We all knew a match between Strowman and Reigns was going to happen anyways, I’m just wondering if we are going to get an appearance from Brock tonight or what role will Mick Foley play as special guest referee. Can someone please tell me why in the hell are The New day tag team champions and why has it taken Rusev Day this long to be in the title picture? Can someone please help WWE creative get a clue already because Rusev Day has been hot for a while. The only thing I want to see is Rusev Day walking out with the WWE Smackdown Live Tag Team Titles.

maxresdefault (1)Now let’s look at the things that they got right last month at SummerSlam and we’ll start with Samoa Joe vs AJ Styles. The match may have ended with AJ getting disqualified, but man you could feel the anger and tension at the end of that fight. These two want to kill each other in the ring and I am 100% buying into it. Becky Lynch’s heel turn last month was what everyone in the world wanted and they delivered. It’s the best programming going around right now in WWE Women’s wrestling and they have not disappointed a single soul yet. I want to see Becky Lynch continue with this mean streak well past this event and into the future because the lass kicker is here to take names. I like what Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler have been doing for a while together, but I am not sure if I like them being called Strowman’s Stooges. Nonetheless, all I want is for Dean to have his heel turn tonight and for Drew and Dolph to walk out as champions once again. I personally do not have any stock in the Orton/Jeff Hardy fight, but it’s nice to see that Jeff will finally have his first Hell In A Cell match ever. Check out my predictions below:

Rusev Day Wins

Team Bryan wins

Randy Orton Wins

Becky Lynch wins

Bliss will win by DQ

Strowman Wins

Joe wins by DQ

McIntyre & Ziggler win

Main Event Madness: Sheamus Vs Damien Sandow

Cody Rhodes, Damien Sandow, Dublin Street Fight, Main Event Madness, No Holds Barred, Sheamus, Smackdown, WWE, WWE Smackdown

6As I said in yesterday’s article, I have been scouring the web for different types of matches that the WWE or anyone other organization has hosted. After stumbling on the parking lot brawl, I also discovered that ten years later on the June 28, 2013 episode of Smackdown, they kicked off the show with a Dublin Street Fight that saw Sheamus take on Damien Sandow. Damien and Cody Rhodes had been pests to Sheamus over the past couple of weeks and Sheamus wanted some revenge on Sandow in a match that best serves his fighting spirit. The match started with Sandow coming at Sheamus with a new sense of viciousness that included a shot with a kendo stick. It wouldn’t matter much as Sheamus used his strength and punishing style to put Sandow on the mat very quickly. After slamming Sandow’s head on the bar tap table, he delivered the sweet sounds of the Beats of the Bodhrán. Sandow was no slouch either as he gave it back to Sheamus slamming him against one of the bar tap tables. He couldn’t keep the advantage for very long as he got hit with a keg toss and beat with a sack of potatoes. After beating each other with kendo sticks, brooms, and whatever else they could get their hands on, it was time that someone was going to win. That advantage would go to Sheamus who after setting up two chairs in the ring, hit Sandow into a seating position thanks to the Kendo stick and then proceeded to deliver a brogue kick that put the superior intellect out for good. Sheamus was the winner of the match.
