We are back again with another edition of The Top Matches of the week and this was an amazing week of wrestling especially in the WWE. There is so much wrestling at our fingertips that it’s absolutely mind blowing. There is Smackdown On Fox on Friday night, MLW Fusion every Saturday night, Raw on Mondays, Impact on Tuesdays, NXT on USA Network and AEW Dynamite on TNT on Wednesday nights, and Beyond Wrestling Uncharted Territory on Thursday nights. As you can see, you can occupy your week well if you try to watch all the wrestling promotions in the world right now, but my job is to give you what I thought was the best of every show that I watched during the week. So, get some refreshments, take a seat, and let me be your guide to the wonderful world of professional wrestling. Now the style is going to be a little different in the way that if there is more than one great match then they’ll just be short descriptions, but if not then we’ll go over the match. I also want to remind all of you that can catch my Top 5 of the week on the podcast Eddie Valiant’s Hot Take here. That is where I look at all the matches I have listed here and I pick the five best of all of them.
WWE Smackdown (12/27/2019)
The last Friday night Smackdown of 2019 kicked off with one heck of a match as The New Day and Braun Strowman took on the team of Sami Zayn, Cesaro, and Shinsuke Nakamura. For the most part, Nakamura and Cesaro did most of the work (Zayn never tagged in once) as they dominated Kofi for most of the match until he tagged in Braun who took care of business which included a huge powerslam that was enough to get the pinfall victory over Nakamura. The other great match of the night was the triple threat match that almost didn’t happen, but did as King Corbin, Daniel Bryan, and The Miz were all battling for a shot at Bray Wyatt. King Corbin made himself a presence in the match which included some help from Dolph Ziggler until Roman Reigns fixed that and took Corbin out of the picture. What followed was an excellent match between Bryan and The Miz as it was a battle of the LaBell lock vs the figure four leg lock and Daniel made The Miz tap to the LaBell Lock.
WWE RAW (12/30/3019)
Without a shadow of a doubt, the match of the night honors belongs to two men who tore it up at WWE TLC and they did the same thing on RAW, I am talking about the opening contest of the night as Aleister Black took on Buddy Murphy in a rematch and throughout the match it looked like Murphy was going to have the upper hand again, but after reversing Murphy’s Law into a near fall, Black would hit Murphy with not one, but two Black Masses for the 1-2-3. In a decent match, The Street Profits handed The OC a big loss making them the best tag team in the multiverse after Ford hit the frog splash on Anderson. Zelina Vega turned out to be a huge asset for Andrade as he took on Ricochet from exposing the concrete on the outside to knocking him off the top rope allowing Andrade to hit the Hammerlock DDT for the win.
AEW Dynamite (1/1/2020)
Thew first time Cody Rhodes and Darby Allin met the match ended in a 20 minute draw so the second match was promising to be a classic. This time around, Cody had Arn Anderson in his corner and he proved to be a great commodity especially when Darby went for the Coffin drop and Arn instructed Cody to lift his knees just in time. Cody rolled up the hurt and stunned Allin for the 1-2-3. In the very next match, Riho defended the AEW Women’s Championship in a fatal four way match against Nyla Rose, Dr. Britt Baker DDS, and Hikaru Shida and these women put themselves through hell, but after Baker was unable to lock in the lockjaw submission on Shida, Riho rolled her up for the 1-2-3. Jon Moxley took on Trent Baretta in a one on one match that was actually entertaining. The night ended with a tremendous six man tag match that saw The Elite (Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks) start the new year right with a huge victory over The Lucha Brothers and PAC.
The women’s tag match on Smackdown Live that saw Dana Brooke and Lacey Evans lose to Sasha Banks and Bayley was a pretty decent match. Lacey has definitely been improving since her rivalry with Becky Lynch ended. Charlotte Flair vs Natalya on RAW looked like a decent match, but it went on for too long in my opinion.
