Last night, the WWE and NXT held NXT TakeOver: San Antonio from the Freeman Coliseum the night before the WWE Royal Rumble. It’s now becoming a thing where the weekend of a Pay Per View now starts on Saturday thanks to NXT. One of the matches on the card that looked intriguing to me was the NXT Tag Team Championship match that pinned everyone’s favorite and NXT Tag Team Champions #DIY taking on Paul Ellering’s intimidating tag team The Authors Of Pain (Akam and Rezar). The Authors Of Pain have paved a road of destruction on their journey to this very match that included winning the 2016 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. With the height and weight advantage (They outweigh #DIY by 200 pounds), the question in everyone’s mind was how was #DIY going to stop these massive specimen led by a WWE Hall Of Famer for a manager. Paul Ellering has led the Legion Of Doom to the promise land, what’s to say he doesn’t get that done with The Authors Of Pain?
If you were watching the way things were gong in the beginning of this match, you were second guessing yourself especially if you were a #DIY fan. The Authors Of Pain were using their size to their advantage which is what a smart tag team does. Every once in a while, #DIY showed some signs of life, but the size difference was too much for them to handle. At one point in the match, it looked as if Tommaso Ciampa was handling himself well with some big knee shots and some German suplexes delivered to the big boys. But just as quick as he was doing well, Akam just smiled and asked for more before he sent Ciampa reeling with a huge clothesline. This wouldn’t be the last opportunity for #DIY, but in an instance, you end up in a super collider and AOP follow that with a last chapter and just like that you have new NXT Tag Team Champions. You have to give credit where credit is due though because #DIY hung in there with the big guys and gave them a fight. It’s just their size and dominance is what took over the match. This was a great championship match that everyone should definitely check out for sure on the Network.
